The U.S. government has ordered Anthropic to suspend access to its AI models, Fable 5 and Mythos 5, for all foreign nationals. According to Anthropic, U.S. authorities issued an export control directive citing national security concerns that requires the company to suspend access by any foreign national—inside or outside the US—including Anthropic's own foreign-national employees. Anthropic has disabled access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all customers while it works to comply with the order. The move marks one of the most aggressive U.S. government interventions in frontier AI to date, signaling that advanced AI models may increasingly be treated like strategically sensitive technologies.
